Childhood: stories
Mary was the baby of 6. As a kid, she was very enthusiastic, loving, kind and very talkative.
As a teenager, Mary was saved, filled with the Holy Ghost, and Baptized under the Late Superintendent L.C. Castleberry
1965: Mother wanted them to learn to play the piano so she sent Mary and Alice to the neighborhood pianist to learn to play. They didn’t want to do it. However, after one lesson, Mary learned to play in multiple keys and by ear.
Later on, she started singing in Stop Six under the late L.C Castleberry. The Scott sisters (Alice and Mary) would travel to various churches singing “We’ve Come This Far By Faith”
Then formed a group called the Angelic Gospelettes traveled all over Texas singing the gospel.
Later years, the piano lesson came in handy as Mary developed a passion for music. She started directing the choir, carrying songs for 2 hours.
Mary believed EVERYBODY could sing. Every musical Mary made sure everybody that wanted to lead a song, had a song to lead. Even those that didn’t want to lead a song, she encouraged them to lead a song and encouraged them the entire time.
Mary has played for numerous churches, revivals, and musicals and arrived late to the majority of them (Sister Mary She Came Running).
