Mark Anthony Brown was born on September 10, 1955 and passed away surrounded by family on March 10, 2025. Mark was born to Bennie and Doris Brown in Slaton, Texas and was the first-born child and grandchild in his family. Even from a young age, Mark was dedicated to his family. Throughout much of his childhood Mark spent summers in Palestine, Texas with his grandfather and grandmother (Leander and Caretha Muse) along with his sisters and many cousins. In his adulthood, Mark would proudly boast about his first job being cleaning the church pews with his grandfather. At home, Mark was a loving son and brother who doted after his mother, looked up to his father, and encouraged his younger sisters.
Mark was born into a family with a strong presence in the church, and after moving from Slaton to Fort Worth, he and his family joined Carter Metropolitan CME church, where he dedicated his life to Christ. Mark attended O.D. Wyatt High School where he was a member of multiple clubs and activities, but was especially talented in basketball.
Mark graduated from O.D. Wyatt in 1974 and went on to attend the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas. While at UNT Mark not only made lifelong friends, he was initiated into the Zeta Upsilon chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, and there he met and later married Theresa (Williams) Brown. Upon finishing school, Mark and Theresa moved to Dallas, Texas and Mark started his career with Braniff Airlines. Mark and Theresa joined St. Luke Community United Methodist Church where Mark was a faithful member, serving as a Sunday School teacher and working in the produce distribution ministry alongside his good friend, the late Ronnie Evans. Mark and Theresa wed in 1978 and three children, Adrienne, Everett, and Marjorie Brown, were born from this union. Mark had many titles and roles throughout his life but “Father” was his most treasured.
As a dedicated father, Mark enjoyed a host of activities with his kids. Including coaching basketball, attending art shows, track events, school productions, and exposing his children to a variety of creative experiences. Mark took joy in encouraging his children’s dreams and goals and never missed an opportunity to spend quality time with them. Mark enjoyed many hobbies such as running, collecting music, and especially cooking for loved ones.
While Mark made a lasting impression on everyone he met, those that knew him well will remember his engaging personality, sharp sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family. Mark is preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Doris Brown. He is survived by his children Adrienne, Everett, and Marjorie Brown, his sisters, Marie Davis (Joe) and Caretha Davis (John), his uncle Clarence Muse (Barbara), his aunts, Jenelle Hollie, Lucretia Jones, and Fannie Davis, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his dear friend Christine King. Although Mark is no longer here on earth with us, his love will be felt forever.
