Marjorie Nell Wiley (“Margie”), 86, died Monday, October 11, 2021 in Denton, TX surrounded by her loving family.
Margie was born December 20, 1934 in Little River, Arkansas to Harry and Audrey McGinnis, the fourth of seven children. Margie graduated from Keiser High School, Keiser, Ark, in 1952. She attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas and graduated in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Foods and Nutrition. In 1957, she worked as a Dietetic Intern at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
As a licensed dietitian and member of the American Dietetic Association, Margie worked at Hermann Hospital, Houston, TX, Christian Care Centers in Dallas, TX, VA Hospital in Bonham, TX, Hilltop Haven, Gunter, TX, and River Gardens in New Braunfels, TX.
Margie married Bill Wiley on February 3, 1962. In addition to her career as a dietician, upon marriage, she became a preacher’s wife – a full time job in and of itself! Margie’s servant heart made her the perfect candidate for this calling. She was a true servant who served her Lord Jesus and selflessly gave of her time and talents wherever she was placed. She touched the lives of all who knew her.
Bill and Margie, in the years following, attended and worked with churches of Christ throughout Texas – Crestview Church of Christ, Waco, TX, Coleman, TX, Abilene, TX, Wood St. Church of Christ, Sherman, TX, New Braunfels Church of Christ, New Braunfels, TX, San Pedro Church of Christ, San Antonio, TX, and Patrick St. Church of Christ, in Dublin, TX. They retired in 1998 and enjoyed their retirement years living at Saint Francis Village, Crowley, TX and attending Western Hills Church of Christ in Fort Worth, TX. They moved to Denton, TX in January 2021 to live closer to family.
Margie was deeply loved by her husband and daughters and granddaughter. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, Bible study, and teaching. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.
Margie is survived by her husband, Bill Wiley and their two daughters; Mary Perry, husband Martin Perry and granddaughter Ella, of Denton, TX, and Julie Wiley Slate of Memphis, TN. Margie is also survived by her sister Dorothy McGinnis, brother Buddy McGinnis, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as cherished extended family, friends, church members, co-workers, and caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Audrey McGinnis, brothers Wayne McGinnis, Harry McGinnis Jr., Dale McGinnis, and sister June McGinnis.
A graveside service will be held at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Rd., Fort Worth, TX on Saturday, November 20 at 1 p.m.
