Lucy was born to the late Huong Van Nguyen and Cau Thi Vo on August 24, 1935, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She graduated from Couvent des Oiseaux High School in Vietnam and received a BA in education from Saigon University, College of Education. Lucy was an exceptional student who was selected among the top graduates to attend an overseas education program at the State University of Florida School of Administration from 1968-1971. She then returned to Vietnam to accept the position as Principal of the Girls’ Middle and High School of Thu Duc. Remembered as a renowned educator, she transformed many students’ lives. Through many years of working with children, Lucy continued her journey as an educator to become a social worker at the Head Start of Dallas in 1991 when she immigrated to the United States.
Not only Lucy was an outstanding educator, but she was also an exceptional wife and mother. She deeply cared for her family and was always the first to offer help. She was immensely proud of her family, and leaves nothing behind except beautiful memories that will be forever cherished. Lucy is survived by her husband Huyen Tran and four children: Suzana, Matthew, Mary, and Theresa, along with 15 grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held on Thursday, September 2 at 6pm at Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church located on 801 E. Mayfield Rd, Arlington, TX 76014. A visitation will follow from 7-10pm at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel in Ft. Worth, TX. An additional visitation will take place on Friday, September 3, from 2-10 pm, also at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 4, at 8:30am, at Vietnamese Martyrs Catholic Church, followed by her burial at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of sending flowers, her family requests that donations be sent to any Catholic church of choice.
