Louis Stephenson Tate, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 27,1948 to the late Louis Stephenson Tate, Sr. and Blanche B. Crossley Tate. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas with his parents at the age of eight years old and attended Sunrise Elementary School before becoming a student at Dunbar Elementary and Dunbar High School where he was a star athlete on the Fighting Wildcats Football Team. He attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas.
Louis married the late Ruby Jean Dawson in 1979. From that matrimony, he proudly became the stepfather of Kathy Holleman and Theron Fairley, and was later blessed with a handsome baby boy named Steven Tate. He later met Viola Jackson in 1983, married her in 1988, and was devoted to her for the last 35-years of his life.
Louis was a concrete mason, a trade that he learned while working for his father at Louis Tate Construction Company. He later used his skills to gain employment with Fort Worth ISD where he retired in 2000.
Louis was known for his classic ’67 Chevelle SS. He was a lover of music and enthusiastic of muscle cars.
Not only was he a true family man, but he loved people and serving the community. He did yearly hayrides for the members of Christ Lifters Community of Faith Church
Louis was known for his flavorful barbeque that hit all taste palates. As a way of giving back, he barbequed for Elaine Mayes Ministries Annual Women Conference for a decade.
Louis is preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother, Jerry Charles Tate.
Survived by: wife, Viola Tate. Two sons, Steven Tate, Sr. (Kim) and Theron Fairley (Wendy); daughter, Kathy Holleman (Kevin); two brothers, Eddie Ben (Saahir) Tate and Charles Tate; one sister, Deborah Tate-Lewis; four grandsons, Brodrick Tate, Steven Tate, Kevin Holleman, Kristafer Holleman; one granddaughter, Kristyn Holleman, two great grandsons, Brodrick Tate, Jr. and Micah Holleman; and a host of family and friends.
A visitation for Louis will be held Friday, November 3, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors, 4000 Miller Avenue, Fort Worth, TX. A family hour will occur Friday, November 3, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 4000 Miller Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76119. A celebration of his life will occur Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2951 Evans Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76104. A burial will occur Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Skyvue Memorial Gardens, 7220 Rendon Bloodworth Rd., Mansfield, TX 76063.
