I was a neighbor of Leland’s at Brookdale. My two sons really enjoyed talking to him.  When I needed help with anything he was always ready to help.  He called my little dog nosey. She would go over into his room and nose around.  My sympathy to his family. 

We always looked forward to chatting with Leland when we visited Mom/Mother in law from St Petersburg FL.  Although that hasn't been as often as we would like he always greeted us with a smile and would say "Hi Florida"!  A most special person that we were blessed to have known.

We are so sorry to hear of Leland's passing.  Leland and Margaret were our dearest friends and next door neighbors at Lakeside Village, Lake Whitney, Texas for many years.  We will truly miss all of our fun times together, but we are glad to have such dear memories.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. 

Our friend, Leland, was one of the most unforgettable people we were privileged to know.   Our visits with him brought us so much  joy as he would talk about his life and experiences over the years, and we came to respect him for the kind and gentle man he was.  We will truly miss him.   It was a labor of love when we restored his park bench where you could usually find him sittling out under the trees enjoying nature with his cigar in hand.   As we drove by yesterday, it was sad to see the bench empty, but we were comforted by the memories of many hours spent enjoying his friendship.  

People were drawn to Leland because of his quiet confidence and inner strength. He had a direct way of looking at people that made you wonder what he was thinking  but he was a good poker player so you never knew. We have lost a friend of the highest integrity honor and dignity. Thanks be to God that his life touched ours and we send Blessings to his wonderful family.  Betty Parsell 

We had many years fellowshipping and fishing with Leland and Margret. We have fond memories of our time with them at Lake Whitney. The boat ramp was an area of excitement when Leland was ready to put his boat in the water.

We were dining room table mates at Brookdale, 5 service men sharing our good times. We played poker and talked football and laughed. I knew he was in a heroic outfit in WW2 , but he was humble about it and full of fun, always smiling, looking like he knew something no one else did. I will miss him a lot, he was the brightest star at our old folks home. God rest his soul.

We will miss visiting with Leland at Brookdale every evening on the back bench where he was smoking his cigars.    Always enjoyed our conversations and will miss him so much.      Seeing Leland's  bench each day will bring back fond memories of a very special person.  
May he rest in peace.
