Lannie was born in Haynesville, Louisiana. Lannie was the 7th out of 8 children born to Alvy Kyle Walker and Jessie May Scott Walker. He went to Haynesville High School until the age of 16 when he decided to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from May 1943 to December 1945. He served on the USS PC-476 and was transferred to Tacloban, Leyte Island, Philippines March 1945 in preparation for the invasion of Japan.
After he served in the Navy he joined the Army Air force Reserves. During this time, he met his wife of 44 years, Evelyn Merger. They soon moved back to Haynesville and started their family. They then moved to Shreveport La. where he earned a BS degree in Mathematics from Centenary College. During the Korean conflict while in the Air Force Reserves he trained Army Radio operators at Barksdale Air Force Base from 1951 to 1953.
From 1956 to 1992 he worked for General Dynamics’ Senior Engineering Group as a Military Computer Systems Specialist. He obtained a Top Secret Clearance while at General Dynamics and was involved in early warning missile defense. Lannie had a passion for Computer programming, Bluegrass music and playing the Banjo.
Lannie was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He was also preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his 5 children, Evelyn Merger Walker. He is survived by all of his children: son Lannie Jr. and wife Terri; son Karl; son Kyle and wife Susan; son Paul and wife Cynthia; daughter Elizabeth. He was a “Granddaddy” to 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Laurel Land Memorial Park 7100 Crowley Rd Fort Worth, TX 76134 on Friday April 8, 2022 at 3:00PM.
