Kathy Hines of Benbrook, Texas, age 72, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, due to compounding medical issues originating from lupus. She was born February 1, 1949, in Wichita, Kansas to Truman Glen Bynum and Louise Ferguson.
Kathy graduated from Trimble Technical High School in Fort Worth, Texas, and later attended Weatherford College, curious to learn more about computer programming. She found her passion in graphic design and website development, continually researching and learning new skills and techniques. Kathy (or Kat as her friends called her) worked for Cantex, Inc. for nearly 34 years. During her tenure with the company, she held various managerial roles and helped bring the company into the digital age. She retired on her birthday in 2017.
Kathy was a strong, successful, independent woman, but she was also kind, compassionate, and loving, spending most of her life caring for others. She raised two teenage boys on her own, encouraged their hopes and dreams, kept them grounded in reality, kept them in line (with the help of a Louisville Slugger baseball bat), and taught them the value of good work ethic. She did a great job because, even now at 50+ years old, they are still Momma’s boys that would move heaven and earth for her. Kathy cared for her mother for nearly two decades, even remodeling her home to give her mother her own space for quilting, sewing, and knitting. She nursed her husband as he fought and eventually succumbed to cancer.
Kathy also looked after more stray cats than anyone can count, earning her the undisputed title of “Crazy Cat Lady” in her neighborhood. A voracious reader and music lover, it wasn’t surprising to find Kathy in her easy chair, Kindle in her hand, a cat (or two) in her lap, and Neil Diamond playing in the background.
She also enjoyed sketching, painting, photography, gardening, cooking, and assisting local animal shelters and veterinarians in the care of animals. Kathy’s favorite place to be was either home with her boys and their families or on the beach, which is where they will be taking her for her final resting place.
Kathy is survived by her two sons, David Langham with his wife Tiffany and Tom (Tommy) Langham with his wife Elisha, five grandchildren; Zachery, Nichole, Kristen, Logan, and Reece, her sister, Glenda Williams with her husband Dean, her brother, Christopher Clary, and her nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Kim, and Kelly.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Clary in January 2015 and her husband, Carlton Hines in December 2015.
She is loved deeply, and her loss leaves a vast emptiness in our hearts.
Please join us in celebrating her life Thursday, September 23, 2021, between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Laurel Land Funeral Home & Memorial Park located at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, TX 76134.
