Judith Smith Carlisle of Crowley passed away June 15, 2024 at age 77. Judi was born December 24, 1946 in Fort Worth. After graduating from Polytechnic High School in 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, Van Smith. The couple moved to Crowley in 1974 and were active in the local community for many years.
After her son Todd started attending TCU, Judi went to work in the university’s financial aid office. She then decided to pursue a TCU degree of her own, earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Work as she continued to work full time. All four family members earned purple diplomas while Judi worked at TCU; she enrolled Van in graduate school, and her daughter Amy also became a Horned Frog. From there, Judi earned a Master of Science in Social Work from UT Arlington and worked several years for Child Protective Services.
Judi lost Van unexpectedly after 38 years of marriage. She took some persuading, but she eventually said yes when another Polytechnic graduate, Tom Carlisle, asked her to dinner a few years later. Judi and Tom were married in 2008 and enjoyed many good years together before Alzheimer’s Disease and physical conditions took their toll. Tom loved Judi well and became an integral part of the family.
Judi loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed preserving family memories through scrapbooking. Being blessed with a green thumb, she also loved flowers and gardening.
Judi was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Ruby Wilson, and her first husband, Van Smith. She is survived by her second husband, Tom Carlisle of Crowley; her children, Todd Smith and his wife Julie of Austin, and Amy Smith of Joshua; and grandchildren Mason Millender of Denton, Jackson Millender and his wife Shannah of Joshua, Abigail Millender of Denton, Landon Smith of Fort Worth, and Walker Smith of Austin.
A private graveside service will be held at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. The family suggests any gifts in Judi’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
