Juan was born and raised in Rotan, TX on June 19, 1933. Juan met and married his beautiful wife Nena Gonzalez (Moreno) in Stanford, TX August 19, 1956; they were married for 60 years.
Juan had a successful and respected professional career. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Navy and served two tours in the Korean War. After 33 years of service to his country, he retired from the Navy (Reserve) as a Chief Petty Officer in 1985. In 1957, he joined the Fort Worth Police Department as the First Mexican American police officer and retired after 28 years of service. He concurrently was employed at Texas Commerce Bank until he retired. Juan was very involved in his church and did his service at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Juan is survived by his wife Nena, two children, Stephanie K. Gonzalez and Sonia Linda Cape; his four grandchildren Adriana Gonzalez Lee and her husband Brett Lee, Anastacia Gonzalez, Courtney Cape and Kelley Cape, one son-in-law, Christopher Cape, one brother, Pete Gonzalez, two sisters, Maria G. Moreno and Elena G. Christopher and many nieces and nephews.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Macaria Gonzalez as well as his brother, Benjamin Gonzalez.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Home, 7301 E. Lancaster, TX 76112. The visitation will be held at on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, beginning at 5:00 pm. Rosary Service will be held Wednesday July 5, 2017 at Shannon Rose Hill Chapel at 7:30 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 N. Davis Dr, Arlington, TX 76012 on July 6, 2017 at 10:00 am with Father Mele officiating. Interment to follow at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family of Juan M. Gonzalez wish to thank the staff at Town Hall Estate, Arlington, TX for their many years of dedicated care to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Though Juan was ill for several years, Juan still remained the cornerstone and the strong, respected Patriarch of the Gonzalez Family. His love, integrity, spirit and humbleness will live on through his daughters & grandchildren.
