Billie Joy Jones of Benbrook, passed away at her home Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the age of 86. She was born to Robert and Maye Marshall on February 13, 1936 in the Freedom Community, Eastland County, Texas.
Joy was raised in Eastland County on a dryland peanut farm. The farm was without running water or electricity for many years but provided an abundance of experiences and life lessons. She attended Gorman schools before moving to Arlington. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation she moved to Fort Worth where she met Neil Jones. They were married in 1956 and remained married until Neil’s death in 2018. Joy and Neil moved to Benbrook in 1966 and raised their family there.
Joy was preceded in death by Neil, her son Todd, her parents, her father and mother-in-law Sam and Tennie Jones, her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Frankie Marshall, her brother and sister-in-law Henry and Carole Marshall.
Joy is survived by her son Mark, his wife Kim, her former daughter in law Sheryl Fischel, her husband Joe, grandchildren Daniel (Julie) Jones, Sam Jones, Kristen (Clay) Griffith, Adam Jones, Grant Jones, great grandchildren Zoey and Dax Jones, Tom Griffith and many nieces and nephews.
Joy worked in Fort Worth for many years as an administrative assistant for Walsh and Watts, the Amon G. Carter Foundation and for the last ten years of her career as Assistant to the President of Southwest Christian School. She was a quick and curious learner, always looking for a better way to do things. Joy was also a great listener, confidante and friend to those she worked alongside.
Joy and Neil were long time members of the West Freeway Church of Christ where she served in many ways as teacher, visitation team member and Elders wife. Her relationship with Jesus and service to His church and His people were truly at the center of her life.
Joy had multiple hobbies among them reading, sewing and travel. She especially loved any coastal destination and always said her ideal place was Cannon Beach, Oregon. In her later years she took up genealogy and would leave no stone unturned to find a distant relative. She and Neil were avid TCU football fans and her favorite athlete by far was LaDainian Tomlinson.
Funeral service: 10am Saturday, December 17th at the West Freeway Church of Christ, 1900 South Las Vegas Trail, Fort Worth, Texas 76108. Viewing and visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9am. She will be buried beside her beloved Neil, in a private service at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
