John was born on October 17, 1942 to Aaron and Leva Mae Woods in Olney, Texas. He lived a full, happy childhood of constantly getting in to trouble and running around with his sisters. After high school, he attended Tarleton State University on a basketball scholarship. John served our country for four years as a Airman in the United States Air Force. Later, he gave nearly 40 years of service to Cain’s Coffee/Sara Lee Coffee and Tea before retiring in 2008.
On December 28, 1965, John married the love and light of his life: Lynda Pearle Justice. Their love story would be described by anyone who knew them as one of the greatest of the century, a romantic epic in its own right. John was constantly telling everyone who would listen how beautiful his wife was and never failed to remind her of his unyielding love. John was well-known for his ability to fix anything; from broken cars, to new house repairs and projects, to broken hearts—he had a knack for making things whole again. He was a resilient man, and a stubborn one. He could crack a joke at any moment and have you laughing when you didn’t think it possible. Above all, his faith in our Lord was unwavering; he shared Christ’s love with everyone he touched through his words and actions.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Leva Mae, and sister, Sandra. He is survived by his wife, Lynda; children, John Woods and wife, Kelly, Missy Glenn and husband, David; grandchildren, Bailey Thompson and husband, Zach, Avery Woods, Abby Glenn, and Ayla Glenn; sisters, Martha and Marion; and countless other family, friends, and loved ones.
A visitation will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth from 6-8 PM on Monday, July 27. John’s funeral will be held at First Baptist Church of Hurst on Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00 PM. John’s favorite teams were the TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas Rangers, he would have loved for you to attend his celebration of life wearing team attire, if you are so inclined.
