JR is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Nance (Smith); his daughters, Kristina Casterlin and Kelly Case; grandchildren, Trevor Case, Reed Casterlin, Amanda Case and Reed’s wife Sydney; and great-grandchild, Elliott Case; brothers, Bill Nance and David Nance; sons-in-law Kevin Case and soon to be Richard Cole. He is predeceased by his mother, Helen Nance (Tharp); his brother, Chuck Nance.
JR was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri on April 18, 1948. Even though he and Hazel attended Westport high, he met his high school sweetheart at Muehlbach’s on the Country Club Plaza. They married on July 29, 1965. They quickly started their family with two beautiful girls living in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. JR was successful at various jobs, but found his calling as a salesman. He was able to use his great personality to seal the deal! And that ultimately had the family move to Texas.
JR was a man of Faith and involved in many church activities. He valued his family above all, through his attending school events, sporting activities and even surprise visits to workplaces everyone felt loved by him. He always took care of his wife, and wanted to make sure she would be okay without him. His passion for motorcycles led him to support Ride for Kids and to raise money for the pediatric brain tumor foundation. He, himself was a leukemia survivor, so he cherished every extra moment. One way he will always be remembered is as Santa Claus, he took great joy in celebrating Christmas.
Services at this time will be postponed to an undetermined date, as we are concerned for everyone’s health and safety issues. We will post information as soon as we know. We are thinking a breakfast picnic for family and friends in memory of JR.
