Joel Dwight Owens, 98, of Burleson, TX, passed away, Thursday, February 20, 2020. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Evelyn Owens and son Charles Michael Owens. The funeral service be held at 3 PM, Tuesday, February 25, at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, TX, 76134. Pastor Sam Ross will be officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Land. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM, on Monday, February 24, at the Funeral Home.
Dwight was born October 21, 1921, in Windom, TX., to William and Ada Owens. Graduated from Windom High School in 1940 and attended Texas A&M University. He joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and served in the European-African- Middle Eastern, area of operation. He was honorably discharged on December 17, 1945.
He married Evelyn In November of 1950, in Fort Worth, TX.
Dwight was employed in the aerospace industry in Fort Worth and retired from Bell Helicopter at the age of 66. He was an avid sports fan and continued to play and coach softball into his 70’s. He coached his daughter’s Women’s Softball Team for several years and coached Women’s Softball at Bell Helicopter. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with this children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an animal lover and cherished his numerous dogs and fed birds and squirrels in his backyard every morning.
Dwight is survived by his son, Gregory Dwight Owens and his wife Tina of Alameda, CA, and his daughter Kay Esters and her husband, Bobby of Burleson, TX; four grandchildren Tiffany Hudson and her husband Adam of Keller, TX, Dorothy Duncan and her husband Brent of Brentwood, CA, Kimberly Thomson and her husband Ben of Livermore, CA and Kelsey Ross and her husband Sam of Burleson, TX; five great-grandchildren Bridgette, Annabelle, and Evan Hudson, Dylan and Madeleine Duncan, Aria Thomson and Caleb Ross.
