She was born in Waco, TX on August 15th, 1955. Janice graduated from Trimble Tech High School and received a Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was married to Church Robert Reed on July, 6th, 1984, in Fort Worth, TX and was a social worker for Child Protection Services. She was a member of The Abiding Word Church and served there as an Ordained Elder, worker in the women’s ministry and the rest home ministry. She also had a passion for helping the homeless.
Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Cleo Lights; step-father, Norman Lights; father, Alex “Cowboy” McKinney; son, Adrick McKinney-Reed; brothers, Alex McKinney, Leon Keeling; sisters, Lavon Mack, Cora Harton and aunt, Fannie Johnson.
Janice is survived by her sisters Shelia Hawkins and Palma-Sue Sanks, her brother Edward Keeling and nieces Pat Mack, Levron Keeling, Regina Keeling-Green and Sidra Sanks Jackson. Her children include Tomika Hardin, Telephous McKinney, Sr., Norman McKinney, Lyedea Caston; Her grandchildren, Telephous McKinney, Jr., Alex Miller, Brittney Willis, Adrick McKinney, Lidesyan McKinney, Ty Mckiney, Zacchaeus McKinney, Telesha McKinney; Her great grandchildren include Noal-Paul Mckinney, Adrick Mckinney, Jr., Asher Mckinney, Ava Janice Mckinney, Geovaun McKinney, Myah McKinney and 57 other nieces and nephews.
