Jim was born to Lois and Truman Tyler on February 12th, 1944, in Los Angeles, CA. He was raised in
California and Oregon, eventually making his way to Texas, where he spent the majority of his life. He
attended Fort Worth Christian College, where he graduated in 1969 with an Associate’s Degree in Art.
Jim started his professional life in retail, but ultimately followed his love of aviation and pursued a
career at American Airlines, where he worked in Fleet Service and Corporate Transportation for 25 years
before retiring. Post-retirement, he also worked at Michael’s and Big Lots.
Jim married Rebecca Bullard on January 15th, 1972. Together, they had one daughter, Jamie. They
divorced in 1996. Jim went on to marry Sue (Suzi) Benson Hanna on February 28th, 2001. They were
married for over 20 years before her passing on September 11th, 2021.
During his adult life, Jim worshipped at College Hill, Midtown, and Legacy Churches of Christ, with the
later leaving him with his strongest Christian influences and inspirations, as described by him not long
before his passing.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Suzi. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie McCurry and
her husband Ben; his sister, Raine Tyler, and her daughters, Nova Sanders and Monet Emert;
stepchildren Elizabeth Porter, Sara Fry, Rachel Burgess, and Rebecca Spaulding, their spouses, and eight
grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Legacy Church of Christ’s Missions Program,
a program whose work Jim supported and cared about.
