Jim was born on July 16,1926, to Joseph Felix and Stella Mae Stout, the youngest of four boys. Jim grew up in Handley and lived there for most of his life. During the Second World War, Jim served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner aboard a PBAY-2 torpedo bomber in the Pacific. In 1949, he joined the Fort Worth Police Department, working in various departments. During that time, he escorted seven American presidents, was on the security team guarding Lee Harvey Oswald's grave in Fort Worth and designed the police patch that is still worn on the uniforms today. After 35 years of service, Jim retired from the police force.
After retirement, he spent four years as Director of Security for the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and went on to spend five years as a Lieutenant of Security at the Fort Worth Bureau of Engraving and Printing from which he retired in 1996.
Jim had a long interest in the space program and, particularly, with the Apollo Prayer League. Along with his brother, John Stout, and his wife, Helen, he became part of the Apollo Prayer League governing body and was charged with educating the public about the Lunar Bible project.
Jim was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Joe Jr. and Jack; and by his wives, Mary Joe, Alice and Jennifer Mary.
Survivors: He is survived by his brother, John; his daughters, Karen Perry, Liz Sarna and husband, Mike, and Megan Sanchez and husband, Rafael; grandchildren, Michael Chowning, Alisha Newton, Douglas Perry, Lucy Sarna, Brooklyn and Isabelle Sanchez; two great grandsons, Michael and Malcolm; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
