At a young age, James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Galilee Baptist Church in Venus, Texas.
James received his formal education at George Washington Carver and Alvarado High School. He excelled in academics and was an advid football player. After graduationg from Alvarado High, he went on to attend Rice University on an academic scholarship, receiving his Associate's Degree in Business Management.
James worked for the City of Alvarado and later transitioned to the City of Fort Worth Village Creek Water Treatment PLant and a Supervisor, overseeing water flow and chemical testing. While servicing in that capacity, he received his AA Water and Waste Management Treatment License from the State of Texas. James retired after 30 years of service. When he wasn't working, James loved fishing, tinkering with cars, and spending time with his loving family.
James was proceeded in death by his parents, Sherman and Ima Stevenson; paternal and maternal grandparents; brothers, Donald Gene, Robert, Melvin, and Albert Stevenson; sisters, Anita Stevenson, Janice Miller, and Bobbie Wynn.
Those left to cherish his precious memories are brothers, Clifton and Anthony Stevenson; sisters, Etta Stevenson and Wanda Woods (Bobby); ten nephews, eight nieces, a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and life-long friend Ricky Sansom.
