Services will be at 9 a.m. on April 19th, 2018 in Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
James enlisted in the United States Army in Sept 1942 where he served for three years. On Septemeber 30, 1945 James married Opal Juanita Richburg, in Lakeview, Tx. They moved to Houston in 1945, where he worked for Sears. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church. They moved to Amarillo in 1971, where James worked as a Warehouse Clerk at Amarillo Gear Co. He was also an active member of Polk Street United Methodist Church.
James and Opal enjoyed several years of retirement in Memphis, TX before relocating to Fort Worth in 2004.
James was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; five brothers; four sisters; and a grandson, Christopher Gray.
Survivors include his sister, Vernice Bruce of Temple; three children, Gary Spencer and wife Tina of Weatherford; Linda Gray and husband Joe of Victoria; and Connie Bewley of Justin; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
