James was born December 6, 1931, in Whitewright, Texas.
He served for four years in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War and received two "Purple Hearts".
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Roberta Montgomery.
Two daughters Sheila Favor, and Sandra Dodgin, one son-in-law and five granddaughters, and 7 great-grandchildren
James was a born- again Christian and a member of Sagamore Baptist Church.
James liked to fish and was an avid bass fisherman. Also, in his later years, he became an enthusiastic off-road "Jeeper".
He also loved football and baseball and followed the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.
James loved his family and his dry sense of humor kept them amused at family gatherings. He will be missed greatly.
