James Homer Hoffman, U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant (Ret.), passed away May 15, 2017. Jim was born in Valentine, Nebraska on July 14, 1943. He spent his first 17 years growing up on his parent’s ranch in Kilgore. He graduated from Kilgore High School in 1960 and worked for his father for 6 months. He joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. Jim served his country in Greece, two tours in Vietnam, two tours in Thailand, served in Diyarbakir, Turkey, and numerous state side assignments in California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas retiring at Carswell Air Force Base, in 1985. He was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars serving as Post Commander of Post 6111 in Arlington for two years and as Post 8587 Commander in Georgetown, Texas. He advanced through district chairs becoming District 21 Commander from 2000 to 2001. Jim was awarded Distinguished All American Team District Commanders and was Co-Captain of the All- State Team District Commanders. He was a life member of Post 9299 in Alvarado, Texas. He served on numerous committees at all levels. His favorite was National Legislative Committee of which he was a member for seven years. He married Barbara Gulick September 4, 1999 in Ennis, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents Homer and Bessie Hoffman, brothers Dick and Bobbie Ray Hoffman, sisters Faye Kehr and Mary Lou Hoffman. Survivors; son Anthony James “AJ” Hoffman, step-son Donald Gulick, sister Joan Carver of Crookston, Nebraska, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and companion Wava Eberly. Service: 11am, Monday, May 22, 2017, Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Burial will be 1:30 pm at DFW National Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
