We are such a blessed family to have had Papa as a father, grandfather and great grandfather. We love you very much.

You left us with so many memories of your love for life and family. I remember being in awe of how you could do so many things: re-roofing our house with cedar shingles, sewing mom some pretty impressive evening gowns (black fuzzy material with feathers, gold lame, blue chiffon and I wish we had the psychedelic pant suit) we loved pretending to make Barbie Doll outfits with the material scraps; the sailboat you made by hand and then took us kids sailing on Benbrook Lake; the 3 baby blue  VW bugs, (one with a crank sky roof) which we could look out the roof to see the inside of the boat or the colorful hot air balloons you decided to chase. I remember how you had so many different hobbies: painting, sketching, photography, the sea horse tank in which the new sea anemone ate all the the seahorses - (I think that we all learned that they needed to be in separate tanks). I truly appreciated your quietness and forbearance with me throughout the years. I am sure that you would have enjoyed creating many new memories - new hobbies or exploring more gadgets with any or all of your family, but I am so glad that I got to experience the many I did. Last week my beautiful wife lost her PaPa Jack. In life he was a great man. In all aspects, including: husband, father and grandfather. For my wife he filled the role of both grandfather and father. I could not be more thankful for everything he did for her. In death I realized how much he meant to the family as well, and I am proud to consider myself part of the Mathews family too! I hope I can bring as much love, strength, warmth, unity, and foundation to my family as he did. I also want to thank each of you for making me feel part of the family. I love each of you, and send all of you my best during this hard time.

Dad, we all miss you very much! But we know you are in heaven and know that you are not in pain anymore. We have so many memories and will cherish each one; from designing our house to sewing our clothes, driving us home from gymnastics to driving the ski boat on the lake, from building a sailboat when you were younger to building a new organized tool shelf in the garage when you were 80! And oh so many more memories! What a talented, loving and quiet man you were! "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
