H. Neil Van Geem, 80, of Fort Worth, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Interment will be at 12:30pm on Friday, October 13, 2017 in Laurel Land Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 7001 Trail Lake Drive, Fort Worth, Texas. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Laurel Land. Neil Van Geem was born January 31, 1937 in Eastland, Texas, the second child born to Henry Edwards Van Geem and Myrtle Faye Lewis. He graduated from Eastland High School and earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Texas and a Masters of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. He married Mary Elizabeth Barefield on September 5, 1959 in Del Rio, Texas. Neil was a loving father and grandfather, brother, friend, and mentor. Westminster Presbyterian Church was a vital part of his life. He loved it and its members and was deeply loved in return. He had a successful professional career as an electrical engineer. He also volunteered in a number of ways including Meals on Wheels and as a mentor at Bruce Shulkey Elementary. Mr. Van Geem is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Van Geem, and his parents, Henry and Myrtle Van Geem. Survivors include his sister Frances Sproles of Huntsville, Alabama, brother Henry E. Van Geem, Jr. of Wichita Falls, Texas, two sons; Steven Van Geem and his wife Shauna, and Alan Van Geem and his wife Amy, grandchildren: Mikayla, Curtis, Robert, Renata, Kegan and Katie. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Mortgage Fund, 7001 Trail Lake Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76133.
