Gloria Joyce Houston

Gloria Joyce Houston was the fourth child born to Luke and Eva Moore on October 13, 1927.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and along with her father and siblings, was a member of Greater Saint James Baptist Church. As a young adult, she moved her membership to Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist when it was still located on Baptist Hill. After the church moved to the Evans Avenue location, Gloria was a faithful member of the Senior Choir and often said "it's what I can do to serve".

Gloria was a product of the Fort Worth Public Schools system, and taught English, Reading, and "foods" from 1963 until her retirement. She was proud to say she "taught everybody in Como" ... first at Como Jr.- Sr. High, then "Big" Leonard and finally Leonard Sixth Grade Center. She loved every one of "her kids' and was excited whenever she heard success stories or got to meet a grand baby.

For the past ten plus years, "laHouston" was loved and cared for by her neighbor turned daughter, Denisse Iglesias and her family. They treated her like a mother and abuela, including her in family celebrations and attending to her daily needs until the last night of her life. Her god-daughter, Arty Watkins, made sure she looked and smelled good, her days were easy and pleasant and she was well fed - often bringing her favorite Whataburger and Diet Dr. Pepper.

Gloria Joyce (Joy Baby) left this earth January 16, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Rosa Lee Denson and Eva Doris Wilson, and her brother Maj. Luke R. Moore.

She is survived by her only daughter, Joyce Evalyn (Doug) Dailey, grandson Keith R. (Paulette) Dailey, granddaughter, Devon M. (Brian) Armstrong, and four great-grands - Evan, Orien and Ethan Dailey, and Ayden Maddox Armstrong
