Georgia Elizabeth McCracken (nee Townshend), 94, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on January 15,2024. She was born on December 4, 1929, in New York City, New York. Georgia was a loving and kind individual who possessed a strong and creative spirit. She approached life with confidence and a sense of adventure, occasionally adding a touch of spice to her experiences.
Georgia is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann McCracken Harvey, and her husband James Dan Harvey; her son, William Henry McCracken, and his wife Anh Le; her grandchildren, Kathleen E. Lollar, Patricia L. Boston, Blakeley T. McCracken, Kendall C. Hanno, Nicholas A. McCracken, Sarah A. McCracken, and Rachel M. McCracken; and her great-grandchildren, Liliane E. Lollar, Ethan J. Lollar, Samuel G. McCracken, Elliot P. McCracken, Nicholas E. Hanno, Elizabeth N. Hanno, and Nina R. McCracken. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank W. Townshend; mother, Theodora Anna Ruhling; her three sisters: her husband, Paul E. McCracken, Jr.; and her son, Paul E. McCracken III.
Georgia’s educational journey began at Highland Park High School in Detroit, Michigan, where she completed her High School education. She continued her pursuit of knowledge and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education from Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan in 1951. Later, she furthered her education and obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of North Texas in 1973.
Throughout her career, Georgia dedicated herself to the education of the deaf. From 1962 to 1973, she served as an Educator of the Deaf at Fort Worth Regional Day School Program for the Deaf. Following that, she assumed the role of Program Administrator for RDSPD in Victoria, Texas, and later for the Parker County Five Country Co-Op RDSPD. Georgia held certifications in Deaf Education, Education Administration, and Educational Diagnostician, demonstrating her commitment to her profession.
Georgia found solace and strength in her faith and was a devoted member of Saint Peter’s Orthodox Church. She was actively involved in various organizations, including KKG Sorority, Texas, Fort Worth Retired Teachers, Alpha Delta Kappa Organization for Women Educators, The Girls Service League, and Women of the Church at St. Peter’s Church. Georgia had a passion for knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and reading. She also had a deep love for travel and explored various destinations, including Ireland, Scotland, England, Europe, Australia, Alaska, and Fiji. She cherished her summers spent on the beautiful beaches of Texas and Florida.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Laurel Land Memorial Park, located at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning, January 23, 2024, at 10:00 am at S. Peter’s Orthodox Church, located at 7601 Bellaire Dr. S, Fort Worth, Texas. Georgia will be laid to rest beside her Husband, Paul E. McCracken. Jr. at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the ALS Society, The American Heart Association, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the Cancer Society.
Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth, Texas, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
