Gary was born on June 5, 1960, in Fort Worth, the youngest of four children to Joseph “Barney” and Darla Cain Barnoski. He spent his entire life in the Fort Worth area. After graduating in 1978 from O.D. Wyatt High School, he continued working. This led to a 37+ year career as a CNC Programmer. After moving to the Godley/Joshua area, he immersed himself into the community and played an active role supporting his daughters, their teammates, and friends in all the things: gymnastics, cheerleading, softball, tennis, band, etc. Many of their friends still think of him as a “second dad”.
As anyone who knew Gary can attest, he never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His selflessness was without bounds. His quick-wit and sense of humor could put a smile on anyone’s face. As an avid hunter, fisherman, and wildlife lover, the outdoors was always his “happy place”.
Gary wore many hats (literally and figuratively), some of which include son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, mentor, and coach. His proudest hat to wear was the “PopPop” hat; his grandchildren brought him so much joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; sister, Vicki Von Der Ahe; and brother, Bill.
He is survived by his wife, Sophia Flores Barnoski; two daughters: Chelsea Barnoski Avalos, husband Cody and their three daughters: Reese, Ellie, and Callie; Amanda Barnoski, husband Blake Dillion and their son Levi and daughter Violet. He is also survived by two step-sons: Aaron Flores, wife Dawn with their three children: Ayden, Lyli, and Lucas; Vincent Turner and his son Slayton. Gary also left behind his mother, Darla Cain Barnoski; brother Joe Barnoski, wife Andy; and numerous extended family including nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who are continuing to grow and spread the family.
Gary will be deeply missed by family, friends, and anyone who was blessed enough to cross his path.
To honor Gary’s passion for the great outdoors, in lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation in his honor.
