We miss Gene very much. The Gene Wentworth Single Malt Scotch Society soldiers on under his banner. We raise a glass to you good Sir.

I served under Gene in the Saigon Support Command in Vietnam.
He was an outstanding leader to work under.  He was unfamiliar with many of the details of my job, but he supported you if you made a mistake by taking the blame upon himself to his superiors and lavished credit in your name when you excelled. 
We shared many pleasant moments when three or four of "his troops" would gather at his trailer to cook some great meals. I had an occasion to visit him and JoAnne at home in Leavenworth and enjoyed our brief time together eating catfish.
I know his family is suffering the departure of this great man and I offer my condolence and deepest sympathy to JoAnne and family.  Wayne Groves, Colonel (Retired) USA


Gene Wentworth was my battalion commander at the 15th S&T at Ft. Hood in the early 70s.  As a young lieutenant, he left a lasting impression on me as a man of integrity, honor, and duty, those attributes of a great military officer.  In addition he had a kindness and concern for his subordinates not alway present in senior officers.  I had the pleasure of re-acquainting with him upon my joining the 1st Cavalry Division Board of Governors in the mid 2000s.  He clearly remembered me from over 30 years before, which knowing him was not surprising.  He was a faithful supporter of the Association and its work.  My deepest sympathies to the family for their loss.  I can tell by the pictures posted, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  Not surprising to me at all.

Gene and I were West Point classmates and also members of the Cadet Protestant Chapel Choir and Cadet Glee Club. We shared many trips together as members of these organizations: Ed Sullivan Show, Perry Como Show on TV; Carnegie Hall appearances, Vice-President Nixon performance, to mention a few. It was always good to get away from "Woo Poo" especially as a plebe. I owe a debt of gratitude to Gene for his kindness during a difficult time in my like when he invited me into his home many times as an expression of his friendship. We are sending our condolences and honoring a great man and father we have never met but heard many great things about.
We have the pleasure of a friendship with Gib, Anne and family and through them we feel like we know the Colonel.  It is easy to see what a good man you were through your son and family.  The morals you have instilled in them that they in turn have been inspired to instill those same morals in their children is one of the greatest life accomplishments one could have.. Rest in Peace Colonel Wentworth thank you for your service. We hope to meet you in Heaven.

We are sorry to hear about the loss of such a wonderful man.  What a great life he lived, full of love, service, duty and family!  They certainly don't make 'em like him anymore!  God speed Colonel!

For as long as I can remember, I have always known love and security.  My Dad not only instilled this gift to me, but his sacrifice and devotion for everything he did in his life will be admired. He worked hard, and played hard.  And his dance moves were pretty awesome too! My Dad taught me how to be brave, have courage and also heartfelt compassion for others. He modeled a wonderful sense of humor and how to not take yourself too seriously. He told me to accept my challenges head on and to know that God is in charge and that He has a plan. He did this by example through his love for Jesus Christ and total trust in our Heavenly Father. It has been my greatest privilege and a true honor to be his daughter.  I will do my best to pass on his legacy and never take what he taught me for granted.  Thank you to everyone who touched his life and made him who he was. A great man, a wonderful son, husband, father and friend. I miss you every day and I am so proud of you too!!! Well done, good and faithful servant!

Gene was a good, kind and special  friend . Such good memories...We hold him, Joanne and family close in our hearts.

It’s amazing while we are growing up we think our parents are the meanest, that they don’t understand, and that we are right and they are wrong!  Well one day we grow up and realize that tough love pays off, they actually did understand, and most of the times they were probably right!  I know my Daddy was an amazing dad!  I never once doubted he loved me, even durning the times I wasn’t the easy-going child.  There was usually a lesson he was letting me learn by letting me do  things my way.  At my wedding I think his hands were shaking just as much as mine.  As I look back over  my life and the many things I learned from my Dad, I’d say teaching us the way to serve and love our Lord and Savior Jesus!  The foundation that both my Mom and Dad  gave us has truly been the best gift of all and it gives me great peace knowing that he is now with Jesus!  I love you Daddy!!!

Gene Wentworth (Dad), has impacted my life in a profound way. From the time I married his son, Gib, he treated me as one of his own.  The lovely gourmet dinners, the festive holidays, trips as a family, or just hanging out are precious times I will cherish forever. Dad’s contagious laughter, his detailed stories, and his orderly leadership have kept us all  connected. I’m honored to be a Wentworth. Carry on, Papa. God has been waiting. 💕💕🙏🏻

"Character " is defined as doing the right thing even when no one is looking.  That was Gene Wentworth.   He was a wonderful Christian,  a brilliant Sunday School teacher and a tremendous gentleman and friend.    He loved the Lord and he loved his church and he loved his country.  He treated everyone with curtesy and respect but if you didn't want to know the answer then you shouldn't ask the question.  You always knew where Gene stood on any subject but his response was always  respectful. 
Gene will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.   Heaven has gotten a lot better.  R. I. P. my friend.

My sincere condolences, Gene continues to be so special to me and thousands of other Soldiers as our past, present and future actions are based on Gene’s ethics, morals and integrity imbedded within each of us!  He was more than a leader, he was a caring servant to mankind  and our Lord Savior!  RIP Faithful Warrior, Servant and American Hero!!!  With all my love and blessings.

The sweetest and kindest man I ever met. Gene made me a better person for having known him.  He created a lasting legacy in the hearts of so many here and elsewhere.

Gene was a true friend, a devout Christian. He was a man whose life and bearing spoke eloquently of Christian values. He was a man my daughters could look to as an example for all good things to be found in a human being. 

Gene was a true friend, and lived by a code honesty, transparency and integrity!  He leaves a lasting impression on our community that will live forever.

Gene brought great memories to all who knew him.  A fellow Anglican with a great tenor voice.   True PATRIOT.  TRUE FRIEND.    PEACE.
