Eugene Marshall Putnam

Eugene Marshall Putnam known as Gene, was 89 years old and resided in Kosse Texas. In his last few months he was a resident at the Bremond Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bremond, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on April 29th 2017, while at Baylor Scott White Hospital in College Station, after a 70 day battle with major health issues.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas. Services will be 11:00 am on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes. Burial will follow in Laurel Land Memorial Park with military honors.

Gene was born on December 1, 1927, the youngest of three boys born to Ollie Burns Putnam and Jim Burt Putnam who raised their family in a small home at 1304 Harrington Street on the north side of Fort Worth. He attended Northside High School in Fort Worth. After he returned from the Navy as a corpsman, he married Kathleen Welburn.

He was first employed as a bus driver at the Fort Worth Transit Company in Fort Worth. His second job was at Corona Plumbing Supply Heating and Air Conditioning. Later his entrepreneurial spirit allowed him to open Puttsco Supply Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning Company on White Settlement Rd. in Fort Worth. From there he took a sales position with Factory Warehousing as a salesman. His last business venture he owned a lawn mower repair shop and a snow cone stand.

Mr. Putnam was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kathleen Welburn Putnam and by both his brothers, Bob Putnam and Harold Putnam.

He survived by his son Randy Putnam and his wife Janis, daughter Sherry Putnam Buchanan and her husband Gary, granddaughter Natalie Putnam Meek and her husband Brandon, granddaughter Kim Anderson and her husband Daniel, and granddaughter Katy Shaffer and her husband Kary.He is also survived by eight great- grandchildren, Connor, Izabella and Lyla Meek, Walker and Harley Anderson, Kourtney, Kyle and Kanyn Shaffer, three nephews and extended family not to leave out his two puppies Hank and Saralee.

Gene enjoyed spending time on Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Texoma. He also loved to spend time at the ranch owned by his middle brother Bob and his wife Martha. They spent many weekends together putting up fences, mowing pastures and whatever else needed to be done.

During the past eight years he has enjoyed living in Kosse, Texas. He loved living in the country. He enjoyed setting on the porch he built and listening to the birds, watching the squirrels chase one another and letting the wind blow in his face.

He had lots of friends in Kosse, Bremond and the Franklin area. The people loved him and loved to hear his stories and jokes. Gene is the winner. He is now in heaven.
