I didn't want to miss telling you all my story. So sit back, relax and pay attention: I was born on November 7, 1932 to Mary Lou and Alfonzo Robinson. My parents were hard working people. I know this to be true because we survived life in the city of Wink (near Odessa, Texas). While in Wink, I completed elementary through eighth grade in a one-room school. My parents then sent me to Fort Worth to live with an aunt so that I could continue my education at I.M. Terrell High School. I attended Terrell as a freshman and returned to Wink. At the ripe old age of 15, I realized that my destiny was beyond the city limits of Wink. So with my mother's blessing and $500 in my pocket I left home to pursue a new life in Tucson, Arizona.
To survive I had to grow up fast and take on manly responsibilities. I worked part time at Dickson Motor Company, a car dealership, owned and operated by John Malanga. John taught me many, many, many things (probably too many)!!! During those years John became my mentor and I learned I had to "make a living". I earned $10 a week sweeping the showroom floor and wiping off cars. He made sure I went to school and I had a place to stay at night. Although John was white he became my "adopted dad". He truly was a blessing to me as a young teenager and as a man.
After graduating from high school I furthered my education for two years at the University of Arizona. I proudly served in the United States Air Force for 22 years. I was dedicated and devoted to this country and my fellow serviceman. During my tour of duty I served state side and abroad. I was blessed to experience many people and cultures such as in England, France, Germany, Libya, Spain, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. My professional career also included work in a managerial role at General Dynamics (GD) from 1977 to 1992. I was the first African American Supervisor permanently assigned at GD.
I married the love of my life, Irene Louis. We were married for 36 years until death parted us. We gave life to four children. I "lived" to be the best provider possible! excelled at work to ensure that my family's needs were met. I am very thankful for such a long, healthy and BLESSED life. GOD HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME!
Finally, I leave you with these words. You've probably heard me say them a million times:
*Life is a hunt for an adjustment to change.
*Everybody gets a turn.
*Somebody's got to do it.
*Don't let the ______grind you down.
*There is a standard for everything. If there's is a short there must be a tall. If there's a thin, there must be a fat.
*If you like who you are you better do what you did.
*What makes you so special that sad things would not happen to you?
*At the end of the day...... an unexamined life is not worth living so every now and then you should STOP and run the traps.
