She was born July 7, 1931 to Foy Douglas and Mamie Shazer in Fort Worth, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Elliott Martin, her sister, Donna Carolyn Shazer, along with her beloved younger brothers, Clyde Wendell Shazer and Foy “Sonny” Shazer.
She leaves behind her daughter, Lesa Guerrero, son-in-law, Dr. Francisco “Paco” Guerrero, her grandchildren, Marty & Amy Reeves, Jerod & Krista Reeves, and Sarah & Brett Patterson and her eleven precious great-grandchildren, Grace, Ellie, Callie, Briar, Coleton, Summer, Randall, Hallie, Carter, Adalae, and Elliott along with many other loving extended family members.
Drucilla Martin was a graduate of Birdville High School in 1948. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at the Billy Graham Crusade at Will Rogers Coliseum in 1951. She was a faithful member of Handley Baptist Church for 68 years, where she taught 5th grade Sunday School for 20 years and loved serving her church and community in faithfulness to her commitment to Christ.
Dru was the epitome of what it means to be a servant. She lovingly cared for her family and friends, and will be remembered for her kindness. She served everyone who knew her through meals, church functions, sewing, and her incredible green thumb. She was a lover of bird houses, beautiful flowers, animals, Coca-Cola, her church, her family, and McDonald’s cheeseburgers. She worked hard for many years operating telephones for TXI and gave every second outside of work to her loving family. No matter what her loved ones did, you could be sure to see her beautiful, glowing smile in the crowd cheering them on.
She faithfully devoted her time and attention to the care of her precious sister, Donna, until her very last breath but still managed to make everyone in her life a special priority. She left a legacy of selflessness, steadfastness, and goodness. She looked well on the ways of her household, extended her hand to the needy, girded herself with strength, and her lamp did not go out at night. (Proverbs 31) She was a woman who feared the Lord and continues to be a blessing to all who knew her.
