“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 (NIV) This biblical passage was exemplified in the life of Dorothy Bullock of Keller, Texas. She was a servant to her family, her friends, and her Lord, with a quick wit, a ready smile, and warm hugs.
Dorothy was also a woman of intelligence and excellence. She graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. She worked for Texas Instruments as a computer programmer in the late ‘60s, was a devoted and stellar stay-at-home mom in the ‘70s and ‘80s, worked for American Airlines headquarters in the late ‘80s and ‘90s, and served as a volunteer at Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine in the 2000s. Throughout her life, she was an avid reader, an early adopter of technology, and a world traveler. Her attention to detail made her an excellent travel planner. Her friends and family benefited from her talents on many life-changing trips, even if she did wear them out at times. She also loved sweets of all kinds, cuddling with kitties, knitting, and needlepoint. She was awarded a blue ribbon for needlepoint at the Texas State Fair.
Dorothy crossed over into heaven while she slept on Sunday morning, May 15th, after nine years of struggling with Alzheimer’s. Even in the midst of such a difficult disease, her wit and her warmth would show up in treasured moments with her family and those who cared for her.
Dorothy dearly loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Glen C. (Tip) Bullock, her daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Kelly Neill, her son Greg Bullock, and four grandchildren: Crystal and Kendra Neill, Riddick Jackson, and Gavin Bullock. She was also loved by many cousins and dear friends from church, some of which have known her for almost 50 years.
A celebration of her life will be held at Lake Cities Church of Christ in Trophy Club, TX at 11:30 am on Thursday, May 19th. Memorial donations may be made to Iron Rose Sister Ministries at ironrosesister.com (Wendy works for them), to Alzheimer’s research at donate.brightfocus.org/adr/donate, or to Christ’s Haven for Children at christshaven.org.
Our confidence that she is in heaven is not based on her accomplishments or her good works, but on her acknowledgment of Jesus as her Lord. “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” Matthew 10:32 (NIV)
