He was born in Avoca, Nebraska but he would have said he was a Texan at heart. Derald moved to East Texas to attend college and eventually to have a family. Derald had a strong interest in technology. In 1978 he bought his first computer, a Tandy TRS-80, that influenced his decision to open his own software business years later.
Derald met the love of his life, Dorthy, at a social event; they married and eventually moved to Burleson, Texas. Dorthy supported Derald’s wide-ranging interests, from becoming a master gardener to learning karate. But one of his greatest passions, next to his wife, was his volunteer position for the Burleson police departments’ Citizens On Patrol (COP) program.
Derald is survived by his wife, of 36 years, Dorthy, his son, Sean, his daughter, Robin, and his grandson, Paris.
A small reception will be held after the service in Laurel Land's reception room.
