Arrangements under the direction of Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel & Cemetery, Fort Worth, TX. SOUTHLAKE -- Clayton Eugene "Gene" Reynolds departed this life Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at 83 years of age.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at North Fort Worth Baptist Church, 5801 N. Interstate 35 W., Fort Worth. Interment: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the North Fort Worth Baptist Church Building Fund.
Gene was born April 19, 1927, in Arlington. In 1943, Gene graduated from Handley High School. He immediately enlisted in the Navy and was shipped out on his 17th birthday aboard the USS Nashville. After his stint in the Navy, Gene worked as a surveyor for the Texas Highway Department. In 1948, Gene married Jane Roach of Fort Worth and bought a house in the Polytechnic area. In 1950, Gene went to work for Texas Bitulithic Co. in Fort Worth, surveying and estimating. In 1965, Gene was promoted to manager of the Fort Worth Division.
Gene was an active member of the AGC of Texas, Texas Good Roads and past member of board of directors of Texas Hot Mix Association. In 1974, Gene became vice president of Texas Bitulithic Co.
In 1977 Gene transferred to Houston to become president of Gulf Bitulithic until he retired in 1982. After his retirement, Gene and Jane returned to the Metroplex and made North Richland Hills their home.
Gene's honesty and integrity, garnered him the reputation in the paving industry of being a strong competitor whose door was always open to anyone needing a helping hand.
Also in 1982, along with the move to North Richland Hills, Gene became the vice president of Reynolds Asphalt and Construction Co. Gene went on to help his son, Gary Reynolds, build Reynolds Asphalt and Construction Co. Inc. Gene's new duties consisted of chief consultant, the training of estimators, and playing golf.
Although Gene did not like to be parted from work for too long, he and Jane were able to enjoy their weekend getaways, playing golf, going on cruises or making plans for the annual company trip.
Gene, an ordained deacon, was a member of North Fort Worth. He was a 50-year member of Handley Masonic Lodge, and a member of Fort Worth Scottish Rite. Gene was also an honorary life member of the Moslah Shrine Motor Corps and past president of Golf Unit. Gene served as the first ceremony master of Moslah Shrine in 2001 and a life member of the Royal Order of Jesters of the 32nd Court.
Gene took a special interest in the lives of the young men and women who attended the Masonic Home and School.
The family's sincere appreciation goes out to the staff at Isles of Watermere for their care of Gene.
