Charlotte Gayle Christian, 84, of Fort Worth, finished her journey on this earth and began the next on December 10, 2020. She was born on December 17, 1935 to her parents, the Rev. Dewey and Aetna Rockett in Monroe, Louisiana. After a childhood spent in Plaquemine, La. Gayle graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville, La, and fittingly given her devotion to language and literature, began teaching high school English in Lake Charles, La. It was in Lake Charles where she met the love of her life, Air Force Lt. Jack D. Christian. They wed in 1959 and together lived and traveled across the US until settling in Fort Worth in 1970. Gayle's love of her family was infinite, her children and grandchildren her delight, and her example of kindness, patience, and strength will never be forgotten. After the Lord and her family, Gayle's greatest joy was her church family at University Baptist Church where, for 50 years, she worshipped, celebrated, and acted out her faith with involvement in vacation bible school, ESL, and many other activities over the years. Gayle cherished her friendships, whether those formed during childhood, college or later, and the lives of all she touched were made richer and are now emptier. An ordinary life, lived in an extraordinary manner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Donald Christian.
Gayle is survived by her children, Christopher Christian and wife Robin, Lori Renfro and husband Greg, and John Christian and wife Shelley; grandchildren, Audrey Christian, Jackson Christian, Ashely Perry, Emma Renfro, Meredith Christian, Jace Christian, and a host of friends who will all miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, December 16th at University Baptist Church, 2720 Wabash Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76109. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to UBC Missions or Union Gospel Mission of Ft. Worth.
