Cathy Lowe Major, born January 18, 1944, in Dallas, Texas to parents William Henry Lowe Jr. and Geraldine Venita Jordan Lowe passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home of over 56 years on Thursday, December 15, 2022. A dedicated and loving wife and mother, she was raised in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Poly High School where she met many lifelong friends, one of which introduced her to a handsome upperclassman named Pat and their story began. Mom and dad were married on January 20, 1962 and were the proud parents of Mike and Martin. They would have been married 61 years next month.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother and stepfather, Frank Martin Jr., whom she absolutely adored and her beloved grandparents Claude “big daddy” Brewer Jordan and Goldie “big momma” Seay Jordan.
Mom and her mother shared a very special bond and was nicknamed “Cappy”. In her younger days she loved to bowl and participated in many bowling leagues and tournaments at various “houses” in the area and almost gave birth to Marty at Forest Park Lanes. Mom’s great-grandmother, Claude’s mother, was American Indian/Cherokee which led to her appreciation of American Indian art and especially jewelry. It also gave her an excuse to travel to Santa Fe a few times each year with dear friends Julie or Vicki, and to Choctaw Casino with Martha. In the late 70’s mom was delighted to get reacquainted with her cousins Carla, Larry, Sammy Kay and Ronny.
Mom’s passion for stained glass led her to open her own studio, Cathy’s Glassworks in Fort Worth, which she owned and operated for many years. During this time mom travelled extensively throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado participating in juried art shows where she met and developed lifelong friendships with many customers and fellow artisans. Mom never met a stranger and loved the opportunity to meet new people. She also had a passion for and a love of animals. She facilitated the adoption of many cats, dogs and other animals, but those were the ones that “got away”. The others became loving lifelong members of the Major family, Moonpie, her potbelly pig being most notable as well as Tyke, Willie, Jacque, Crissy, Tiger, Killer, Winky, Ms. Pudgy Sr., Sweetie Pie, Stinky, Purdy, Biscuit, Moby, Itty Bitty, Trouble and Smokey that made it to Mike’s home and Mr. Pudgy Jr. that made it to Martin’s home.
Later in life Mom’s artistic talent turned to needlework, embroidery, quilting and card making where she made and gifted many beautiful creations to family and friends. Mom loved to prepare big meals, music, played the piano, had a lovely singing voice and enjoyed choir early in life. There are many things that we will miss about mom especially her sense of humor and love of life.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick “Pat” Michael Major Sr., sons, Patrick “Mike” Michael Major, Jr. and Martin Major. Brother-in-laws, Fred Major and his daughters Marla Major and Karen (Tim) Missey, Jerry Major, Jess Major and sister-in-law Bess (John) Tate, Marla and Karen’s mother Sherry Major. Her eldest sister-in-law Nelia (George) Taylor preceded her in death.
A visitation for Cathy will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Laurel Land FH - Ft Worth, 7100 CROWLEY RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76134, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
