She married Alton Dale Patten on June 23, 1951 in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan College with honors with a degree in Pre-Med.
Al and Sue had 3 children, Rusty, Sheryl and Bryan. As Al worked hard to provide, Sue worked hard to be sure that her children were very loved and supported. When grandchildren came along, she was very happy to be able to be a part of taking care of them also.
Sue was a very involved member of College Heights, Eastwood, St. Matthews, Handley & Meadowbrook United Methodist Churches. She was active as a leader in Stephen’s Ministry, bell choir and children’s choirs. She volunteered with James L West Center, John Peter Smith Nursery, New Lives School, Eastside Ministries and countless other organizations. She was a very active member of the UMW, she worked many church garage sales and Fall festivals. Sue was an amazing example of love, faith, and service to all who knew her.
Sue Patten is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alton Dale Patten and each of their parents.
Sue Patten is survived by her son, Rusty Patten and wife, Kimberly, her daughter, Sheryl Wood and husband Ray, her son, Bryan Patten, and her sister, Ann Wood and husband Larry. She leaves great-grandchildren, Carson Milne, Madison Milne, and Samuel Moreno. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the caregivers from Senior Helpers who cared for Al and Sue through their final difficult years.
A year or two ago, Sue handwrote a note expressing her wishes for memorials in lieu of flowers. She expressly asked for friends and family to honor her memory with random acts of kindness for those in need. Please take this to heart and when you get the opportunity, think of Sue and honor her.
