Barbara Ann Johnson, 82, peacefully departed to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 9, 2023, following a brief battle with cancer.
Affectionately known as "Babs" by close friends and family, Barbara was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 19, 1941, to Ellie J. Brown and Charles Johnson. She was the loving and nurturing older sister to six siblings, caring for them throughout her life.
Barbara proudly graduated from Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Texas. After attending Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, Barbara ventured to Los Angeles, California, to pursue her career. After a few years on the West Coast, she returned to Fort Worth, dedicating herself to a long and fulfilling career with the Postal Service until her retirement.
An accomplished seamstress, Barbara's artistic talents extended to creating beautiful clothes for her daughter, great-granddaughters, and many others. She found joy in beautiful things, had a passion for the arts, and loved to travel. In a demonstration of her love, she generously funded her sister’s and mother's first family vacation to Disneyland.
Fondly remembered as a wonderful host for family dinners, a skilled cook, and a generous support system for her great-grandchildren and siblings, Barbara was a true prayer warrior and a pillar of support for family and friends throughout her life.
Barbara's deep faith led her to dedicate time and energy as a member to Beth Eden Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Womens Ministry President, and an inspiring guest speaker at Women’s Conferences and Church Services.
Barbara is survived by her only child, Michelle Johnson, her granddaughter Krystle Johnson, and her five great- grandchildren: Iytavia Niveah Johnson (19), Abrianna Khadijah Johnson (14), Chahna Lynn Johnson (10), Yahsire Johnson (7), and Yassir Johnson (2).
She leaves to mourn her passing four siblings: Brenda Joyce Smith-Jenkins (Houston, Texas), Virginia Sanders (Sacramento, California), Hope Hogan (Dallas, Texas), and Eugene Jesse Brown (Dallas, Texas); her first cousin, Warner Eugene Henson (Houston, TX), and a host of other relatives and friends whom she dearly loved and who loved her.
Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Charles Johnson; mother, Ellie Jewel Brown; and sisters, Edna Louise Bacy and Harriet Annette Thompson.
