Service: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27 at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas with a brief burial service to follow. Pastor John Wohlgemuth of Normandale Baptist Church will officiate. A reception will follow at Normandale Baptist Church, 2001 Chapel Creek Blvd, Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at Laurel Land Funeral Home.

She was born Barbara Jane Smith on September 16, 1941 in Grandview, Texas. She graduated from Brewer High School, Fort Worth, Texas, in 1960, excelling in many sports. She met her high school sweetheart there, Everett Hartman, and they became husband and wife in 1960, spending 55 beautiful years together in Memphis, Tennessee and Fort Worth, Texas. Barbara embraced her life as a homemaker and found pleasures in simple things – always keeping a clean home, fixing up and re-staining an old chair or sewing for her friends and family. She was an active mother while raising her three sons, Everett Jr., Lynn and Jason and played softball, basketball, tennis and was the envy of many league-night bowlers, men and women alike, who admired the sweeping hook she naturally threw. Her diagnosis of lupus in the early 1980s prevented her from maintaining as active a life as to which she was accustomed – but she accepted it with grace and perseverance. As time progressed, everyday mundane tasks became increasingly difficult to complete but she never complained; never wavered – always forging ahead. She dearly loved her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren – who all affectionately called her “Mema”. She spoiled and showered them will love and kisses and showed them what family truly meant. She will be missed so much by family and friends – words can hardly do justice to the loss we all feel. We loved you so much - our precious wife, mother, sister, friend and beloved Mema – you will be forever in our hearts.

Survivors: Husband of 55 years, Everett Hartman; sons, Everett Wayne Jr., Lynde Neal and Jason Wade; brothers, Robert and Don Smith; grandchildren, Neal, Callie, Michael, Sydney, Hunter, Ellena and Kiran Hartman; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Celeste Terral, Elizabeth Jane and Lyndee Hartman and a large amount of extended family members and friends, too numerous to mention.
