Armando (Mando) Trevino was a legend. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away after a courageous battle against Merkle Cell Carcinoma on December 15, 2022 at the age of 84.
Mando grew up in Ozona, Texas. There he met the love of his life and his wife of 63 years, Maria (Minnie). Together they raised five daughters, creating beautiful memories across many trips and adventures in their youth to spending time in Mexico after his retirement from General Motors after 17 years.
As a father Mando was very strict, but always remained loving and supportive, raising five strong and independent young girls. When they grew into adults, he became a guiding light and friend.
Mando was an excellent cook, from brisket to chorizo; friends, family and friends of family were always asking when he would be back in the kitchen, and craving whatever recipe he cooked up next.
He was a skilled welder, building smokers, fences and unique artifacts for family and friends, but his claim to fame was welding the antennae on the Tower of the America’s in San Antonio Texas.
Mando never met a stranger. If you were blessed to have met him, you would quickly find yourself a friend and soon be welcomed into his heart as family. Many of these friends eventually found themselves meeting at least once a week with Mando to discuss stories, beliefs and current events at an “Organization” he called the “Meeting of the Minds”. As many of those who attended these meetings will tell you, Mando was a man of integrity, wisdom and guidance who inspired others to achieve their dreams with a gentle push in the right direction.
Mando is survived by his wife Minnie, daughters Marda, Cece, Lisa (Steven) and Julie (Kevin); his grandchildren Jason (Rachel), Alena (Chris), Mario, Emily, Sarah (Michael), Amy, Christopher (Jessica) and Jonathon, along with 7 great grandchildren, brothers Arthuro (Antonia) and Arnulfo (Pilar), sister Lupe (Kiko), and a host of loving extended family and loyal friends.
Family and friends are encouraged to keep him alive in their hearts by sharing happy memories and celebrate Mando in the way he would want to be remembered, as a loving and caring man who enjoyed life.
His family wishes to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff and physicians of MD Anderson and Community Healthcare of Texas Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the cancer fund of your choice.
