He was born to William A. Carter and Matilda Thompson on December 23, 1935 in Magnolia, MS. Alvia served four years in the Army and was a Carpenter in the military. He graduated from Alcorn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Education. He was an Engineering Draftsman and Computer Programmer for the federal government for 39 years. He was a sweet and caring person who loved his family. He was devoted to his family. He loved fishing, music, traveling, fixing cars, and repairing items around the house. He was a resident of Fort Worth for 57 years.
Alvia retired from General Services Administration as a Computer Programmer. Alvia received an award in recognition of service on the TRIPS conversion project from General Services Administration (United States Government). He also received an award in recognition for 30 years of loyal and devoted service with General Services Administration (United States Government).
Alvia was married in matrimony to Katheryn Carter on December 29, 1965 in Mobile, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Fernandez; and brother, Vernie Carter.
He is survived by his wife; children, Trenell Carter of Fort Worth and Viona Carter of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Cierra Harris of Austin, TX and Franklin Harris Jr. of Houston, TX; a host of nieces; and a nephew.
