Herb was born in a farmhouse in Gunter on Oct. 14, 1926. When he was 1, he moved in a covered wagon to Denison. He attended a one-room country school for seven years. He graduated in 1944 from Denison High School, where he was a member of FFA and showed the grand champion Herford beef calves for three consecutive years.
Herb graduated from Southeastern University in 1949. For 35 years he was with the Turner Young Investment Co. as a mortgage bankers' loan officer and vice president. He retired in December 1997.
He was a member of Handley United Methodist Church and a former member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church. While a member of Meadowbrook, he was instrumental in getting the elevator to the second floor installed in memory of his immediate family.
Herb married Betty Lee Crump in 1960; she preceded him in death in 1975. They had one daughter, Tamara Taylor-Cotter. Tamara and her son, Brendon Cotter, preceded him in death on Easter Sunday in 2000.
In 2004 he married Nancy Killman, a friend for many years.
He will be missed by his family, friends and the "breakfast buddies."
Survivors: Wife, Nancy; grandson, Shane Cotter; brother, Fred and wife, Louise, of Granbury.
