Visitation will be 5pm – 8pm, Thursday June 6, 2024, at Shannon Rose Hill with the family present between 7pm – 8pm. Funeral Service will be at 1pm on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Meadowbrook-Poly United Methodist Church with Pastor Ginger Watson, officiating. Burial will follow at Shannon Rose Hill.
Alice Pauline was born in Ft. Worth, TX to Charlie Parker and Alice Anderson on March 4, 1940. She matriculated through FWISD and graduated from the historical I.M. Terrell High School class of 1958. She married Earnest Sims Jr. on July 17, 1959, in Ft. Worth and would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this year. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan University with her Bachelor of Science in December 1994 and Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology with her master’s in theology. She also attended John Peter Smith Nursing School and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for 26 years working for John Peter Smith and the Drug Treatment Center. She left the nursing profession to answer God’s call to the ministry.
She pastored numerous churches in the United Methodist Church in the Central Texas Conference. She was ordained as a Deacon in The United Methodist Church, in June 1997 and later ordained as an Elder in June 2000. During her faithful years as a member of The United Methodist Church she served in many capacities including Children’s Ministry, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Lay Speaker, and choir member. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Women until she retired and was a Chartered Member of Campus Drive United Methodist Church where she answered God’s call. She pastored until she retired in 2007. She remained a devoted member of The United Methodist Church joining Meadowbrook-Poly United Methodist Church. While attending SMU she worked for the FWISD as a substitute teacher. For over 30 years she actively worked her prison ministry until she had to stop due to Covid. She was an avid reader, loved to cook and bake, travel, tending to her flowers and gardening in her backyard, and spending time with her family.
Alice is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Anderson Adams, and brother, George O. Washington of California.
Alice is survived by her spouse of 64 years, Earnest Sims Jr.; sons, Paul (Lynn) and Earnest III (Katrese); granddaughters, Kimberlee Sims, Nicolette Sims, and Shabrea Johnson; great granddaughter, Bailee Jackson; brother, Paul E. Ray of California; and sisters Dr. Tomasa Lockman-Haynes of Virginia and Edna Willrich of Massachusetts. Best friend since kindergarten, Dorothy Watts and close friend Lettie Cooley and a host of relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Larry Bonner, Robert Bonner, Ronnie Bonner, David Bonner, Norris Sims Jr., and Michael Sims.
