Alan J Young was born May 25, 1945, to the union of John and Marion E Young. As a child, he excelled academically through his formative school years. He continued to excel after entering the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. He studied Business and Marketing and also pledged to the great “Kappa Alpha Psi” Greek fraternity. His entrepreneurial journey began after he graduated from the University as a businessman with a heart full of passion and a mind brimming with curiosity. Alan initially worked for Shell Oil Company where he honed his skills until he had the opportunity to purchase his own Shell gasoline and repair station. His ambition didn't stop there; he was soon accepted into the prestigious GM Minority Dealers Program. Alan’s first dealership was in Lincoln, NE, where he honed his success skills from 1979 until 1984. In 1985 Alan moved on to an exciting opportunity in N. Richland Hills, TX, where he acquired a GM Buick and GMC truck franchise, and later added the Pontiac brand. He excelled in the Texas automobile market and proudly owned this franchise until 2008.
Beyond his professional achievements, Alan was deeply involved in his community. He actively participated in Toastmasters of America, the Fort Worth Black Chamber of Commerce, the Boy Scouts of America, and Sister Cities of Fort Worth. Alan's zest for life extended into his hobbies and family gatherings as well. He loved playing tennis, traveling, studying Spanish, and practicing yoga. Alan had a love for movies which was fostered by his mother and grandmother. His adventurous spirit led him to skydive and even run with the bulls in Spain. His life was a vibrant tapestry of business acumen, community involvement, daring adventures, and family time. All driven by his boundless enthusiasm and joy for living.
Alan precedes in death his loving wife Alistair Young of 30 years of marriage, sons Jeffrey and Christopher (Shannon); daughter, Kymberly (Scott)--children’s mother Jacquelyn Young; brother Aaron (Denise), sisters Stella (fondly Dollface) and Frances (Andre); grandchildren; Baylee, Yogin, Asa, Jettson, Jackson and Merritt, great-grandchild, Adrianne; along with many nieces and nephews.
