William Francis Edwards, 94 of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away July 17, 2018. He was born on February 26, 1924 to the late Alfred William and Elizabeth (Fields) Edwards in Fort Wayne, IN. William served his country proudly in the U S Navy. He served the Fort Wayne community from 1951-1972 with the Fort Wayne Police Department retiring as a Captain with the Vice and Narcotics Division. He loved his family and enjoyed woodworking and fishing. William was a real animal lover rarely not being without a four-legged companion. He is survived by his children, Carolyn Umbaugh of Marathon, Florida, Kathleen Girardot of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Diana (Phil) Cole, Seattle, Washington, son in-law, Dan Maloney of Butler, Indiana, brother, Herbert Edwards of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and twin brother, Alfred Edwards of Fort Wayne, IN; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. William is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Kraicum) Edwards, his parents, children, Michael Lee Edwards, Marilyn Maloney, and sisters, Margaret Winkler, Dorothy Dunham, Emily Hamilton. Services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 11 AM at D. O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home -Maplewood 4017 Maplecrest Road Fort Wayne, IN 46815 with visitation there Sunday, July 22nd 2-4 & 6-8 and Monday one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The family request memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or Officer Down Memorial.
