VIOLA K. ESSIG, 97, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at Kingston Care. She was born March 8, 1916 in Woodworth, Ill. a daughter of the late Henry M. and Anna (Wolter) Wald-schmidt. She attended Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Ill., and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (Bachelor Degree). She was a Teacher at Emmaus Lutheran School for 27 years before retiring in 1982. She was also employed at Radio Station WVKB Richmond, Ind. Interview program and script writing in 1945. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was part of the Sunday School Staff, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Allen County Extension Service, Lutheran Retired Teachers Assoc. Surviving are her sons, Thomas W. (Christina) Essig of Fort Wayne, and James P. (Dianne) Essig of Winter Garden, Fla.; grandchildren, Laura (Michael) Dausher, Rachel (Brad) Botts, and Jordan Essig. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erhardt Essig in April, 2006; brothers, Rudolph, Victor and Carl Waldschmidt; and sister, Olga Nelson. Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Mark Neubacher officiating. Visitation also from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd. Burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
