Thomas Hugh Langmeyer, 82, of Fort Wayne, died on Friday February 8, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. Tom’s life centered around God, family, and country. He had been a member of St. Therese Catholic Church for over 50 years, and regularly attended St. Gaspar Church, Wolcottville, during “lake season”. He always put his wife, Helen, first and loved being surrounded by family. He worked for the Kroger Company for over 40 years. He loved this country and proudly served in the Marines from 1951 to 1954. He was thankful for his abundant blessings, and was particularly thankful for the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this country. Creativity colored many aspects of Tom’s life. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and woodworking; he was a good cook; and had a “green thumb”. Dry wit and playful sarcasm were his trademarks. Tom will be greatly missed by the many, and we will remember him fondly until we meet again. “And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die”(John 11:25-26).
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years; Helen Cook Langmeyer; four daughters Jayne (Sergio) Garcia, Julia Langmeyer, Jennifer (Harmon) Hensley, and Janice (Kim) Kenline; 11 grandchildren, Justin Olson, Cara Hensley, Jill (Kevin) Dunham, Abbey (Ryan) Mooney, Eric Hensley, Stephanie (Jeremy) Johnson, Luke Freck, Meghann (Zach) Powers, Erin (Josh) Harshman, Miranda Cox, and Katie Kenline; 11 great-grandchildren, Kylie Brenner, Aiden Johnson, Jayden Dunham, Jack Harshman, Janelle Dunham, Mason Noel, Aniyah Cox, Camille Johnson, Madilyn Johnson, Stella Mooney, and Korbin Powers; brother, William Langmeyer; and sister, Patricia Stiffler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Stephanie (Kortokrax) Langmeyer, brothers, Warren and Donald Langmeyer, sisters, Ruth Gordon and Geraldine Seitz, and great-grandson, Xander Powers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday February 12, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior at church. Calling will also be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Monday February 11, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne. Entombment will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Therese Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
