Stephen Michael Leon, age 69, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at the Fort Wayne VA Medical Center. Stephen was born in Fort Wayne, on April 23, 1954 to the late Elizabeth Ann and Albert Joseph Leon.
Steve as he was known was a graduate of Bishop Luers High School in 1972 and he remained an avid Luers Football fan. He was a Navy Veteran enlisting in 1973 and had served aboard USS Forrestal (CV-59) as an Aviation Support Equipment Technician obtaining the rank of Second Class Petty Officer until he was honorably discharged from service in 1981.
Upon completion of service to his country, he attended ITT Technical Institute and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Auto Mechanics. Steve received his pilot's license and enjoyed flying Cessna Airplanes. He also enjoyed playing Bingo with his friends, bowling with his family (The Weebles) and playing Chess with his son William. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church where he sang in the choir.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark Leon.
To cherish many memories and continue his legacy are his children, Stephen M. Leon, Jr., William (Candace) Leon, Julia (Scott) James and Kristina Gerhardt; three grandchildren, Ethan Leon, Landon James and Maximus James; siblings, Donald Leon, Eric Leon, Elizabeth Leon and William (Brenda) Leon whom he said the Rosary with every night; several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass will be 12:00 pm Friday, February 16, 2024 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church 1502 E. Wallen Road, (46825) with visitation 2 hours prior to service.
