Stanley G. Longenberger

Stanley G. Longenberger, age 72, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Golden Years Homestead. Born on October 14, 1950, in Decatur, Indiana, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Irene (Girod) Longenberger. Stan was a graduate of Southside High School in Fort Wayne and proudly served his country in the United States Army after graduation. During his two-year tour in the Army, he served in the medical corps as an Xray technician and also served in the Panama Canal. Stan married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Golembiewski) in 1972, and remained by her side until her passing in September 2022. Stan worked in the factory at DANA Corporation for 36 years until his retirement in 2008. When not working, he was into all things sports, especially watching I.U. basketball and cheering for the Chicago Bears and the Cubs. As a “lawn care perfectionist,” Stan’s yard was always immaculately maintained, and his home was always welcoming and open to friends and family. Stan and Barbara loved to socialize and often hosted bible study, as they were active members of both the Waynedale United Methodist Church and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. To say that Stan was a good conversationalist, would be a massive understatement. He loved to start conversations with all people, everywhere. He never knew a stranger and often all it took was for him to spot someone wearing an I.U. hat or a Bears jersey, and the comradery would begin! Stan was a giving person and found that his way to give back during Barbara’s illness was to donate blood and platelets. He was recognized by the American Red Cross for his dedication and generosity while giving the gift of life saving blood donations. Stan will be dearly missed by family and friends alike. He is survived by his children, Amy (Joey) Ternet and Rick (Kyli) Longenberger; his sister, Sharon (James) Kellock; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Longenberger; his parents; and his brother, Stephen Longenberger. A memorial service for Stan will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804 with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with his wife Barbara, at the conclusion of the service.
