Roy Alexander Smith, age 80, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Stillwater Hospice. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 26, 1941. He would go on to graduate from Hardin Simmons University in Texas and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in 1972. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, being stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam War.
Roy married the Rev. Doris E. Smith on March 8,1997. Previously, Roy had been married to Linda (King) Dilks and had two children, Lori and James.
Roy served Baptist churches in Southern Indiana; was a correctional casework manager at Westville Department of Corrections; then served three United Methodist Churches before retirement. Roy was a member of Alliance Community Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Roy enjoyed reading, attending church, dining out, good movies, riding his motorcycle, and visiting friends.
Roy is survived by his wife, Rev. Doris E. Smith; his daughter Lori (Troy) Saine of Dacono, Colorado; his son James ( Angelie) Smith, United States Navy, stationed in San Diego, California; and his step-daughter Rev. Kelly S. (Tony) Sellers; his granddaughter Alexandra (Belle) Saine, his granddaughter Abigail Taylor Smith, his grandson Anthony Sellers and his grandson Adam Sellers.
Funeral services for Roy will be held Friday, August 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Alliance Community Church, 5610 Lahmeyer Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. A committal service will occur Monday, August 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m at Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E 38th St., Marion, IN 46953.
Serving as pallbearers are James Smith, Troy Saine, Tony Sellers, Anthony Sellers, Adam Sellers and Jerry Thomas.
