Ronald Edwin Carr, born September 5, 1953, in Fort Wayne, IN, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at home with his significant other, TJ McCombs, and his sister, Linda Battiato, by his side. Within only a few months, he fell victim to an extremely aggressive form of cancer with an unknown origin.
After many years at the Fort Wayne Flea Market, Ron, aka “Ronnie”, went to work at Baxter’s Antique Mall - now known as Antiques on Broadway - where he worked for over 20 years. He sold a variety of antique items, but his personal passions were American Indian, WWII, Wild West, Beatles, and all types of music memorabilia.
Ron achieved 25 years of sobriety. He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous, an avid believer in “The Big Book”, and was often asked to share his story about his road to recovery at meetings all around the area. He humbly worked the program each day. He was an inspiration and a motivator to others who were on their own journey to sobriety.
Ron was in the movie Eight Men Out. Even though his role as a ball player was cut due to rain, he still appeared in the last scene. Ron was involved in community theater. He acted in multiple shows at Arena and Civic Theaters for many years. He won an Anthony Award for his role as Stewpot, in South Pacific, and an Arena Best Actor Award for his role as Carl, in Bus Stop.
It was at auditions for Bus Stop that he met the love of his life, best friend and soulmate, TJ McCombs. They enjoyed the next 23 years as a couple, only being separated by his passing.
Ron is survived by his true love, TJ McCombs; sister, Linda (Joe) Battiato; Aunt, Janet Koppenhofer; nephews, Andrew (Laura), and Matthew (Kelly) Battiato; niece, Kristen Battiato; daughter, Stephanie Carr; two grandnieces, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Margaret, “Pat”, Carr.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also take place from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Catholic Cemetery.
